Chuck Schafer – The
Architect
After graduating from The
University of Michigan with a degree in architecture and completing his term in
the U.S. Army, Chuck began his career as an architect. He eventually joined Hanahan & Strollo
where he was Vice President. Chuck
worked full time for Hanahan & Strollo for 42 years before his retirement
in 2000. He continued on as an active
consultant and architect until his passing.
In the
late 1960’s, Chuck Schafer was the lead architect and was instrumental in the
design of
Chuck never felt that the school was
quite complete until funding was finally raised, nearly thirty years later, to
support the building of The Boardman Center for Performing Arts. Chuck’s dream was to provide this sort of
state-of-the-art entertainment facility for the Boardman School System. Chuck’s wish came true as The Boardman Center
for Performing Arts was dedicated in August 2000. Chuck was the lead architect and was honored
at its dedication.
Throughout his entire career
as an architect, Chuck did various remodeling and design projects for other
schools within the Boardman Local School District, Youngstown State University
as well as other school districts and other community and governmental
facilities.
