After graduating from The University of Michigan with a degree in architecture and completing his term in the U.S. Army, Chuck began his career as an architect.   He eventually joined Hanahan & Strollo where he was Vice President.   Chuck worked full time for Hanahan & Strollo for 42 years before his retirement in 2000.  He continued on as an active consultant and architect until his passing.

Boardman High School / Boardman School Systems

In the late 1960’s, Chuck Schafer was the lead architect and was instrumental in the design of Boardman High School.   All three of his sons attended Boardman High School as will three of his grandchildren.

Chuck never felt that the school was quite complete until funding was finally raised, nearly thirty years later, to support the building of The Boardman Center for Performing Arts.   Chuck’s dream was to provide this sort of state-of-the-art entertainment facility for the Boardman School System.  Chuck’s wish came true as The Boardman Center for Performing Arts was dedicated in August 2000.   Chuck was the lead architect and was honored at its dedication.

Throughout his entire career as an architect, Chuck did various remodeling and design projects for other schools within the Boardman Local School District, Youngstown State University as well as other school districts and other community and governmental facilities.
