Bruce W. Sekanick, AIA, from AIA Eastern Ohio, was elected 2017-2018 Secretary of the AIA National Board of Directors at 2016 AIA Convention in Philadelphia. The election came as a result of a run-off vote by accredited delegates on Saturday.
Currently the chair of ArchiPAC, he previously served as chair the the Strategic Planning Committee, regional representative to the Strategic Council for 2015 and regional director on the Board of Directors from 2013 to 2014, both for the Ohio Valley Region. He was also president of AIA Ohio in 2010 and president of AIA Eastern Ohio in 1995.
"AIA can and should be the primary resource for members for knowledge, practice and process," Sekanick says. "We need to share our collective intellectual capital to strengthen the profession, and I look forward to making that happen as your AIA Secretary." As part of his candidate platform that was presented to AIA membership at the 2016 AIA National Convention, he noted that service to the Institute should be based on principles of service as opposed to a personal agenda.
The managing director and secretary-treasurer at Phillips/Sekanick Architects in Warren, Ohio, he received his B.Science and B.Arch. from Kent State University along with a Certificate in Urban Studies and Planning. He also completed an Executive Certificate program in Leadership and Management in 2012 from the University of Notre Dame.
